The old ones were just rough and not made realistic, but unrealistic ≠ cartoony. People mistakingly accuse the old models of being cartoonish while the Remastered ones look way more cartoony. Either way though, PC for sure so I can use mods to fix things I don't care for lol. Overall though I am still looking forward to the release, and will definitely pick up the PC versions barring major technical issues or critical reviews - then I will wait for mods to fix things. I'd imagine something like this could be accomplished through SweetFX or a similar injection tool on PC. The new one is not awful imo, but I still prefer something closer to the original. The pale green/blue screen filter that 3 had on the PS2 really set that dreary, rainy feeling.
I think a simple color grading could fix it though, I tried to give and example here: It sadly doesn't have the same (not to say it doesn't have it's own) atmosphere as the original. GTA III got the same lighting treatment as San Andreas and Vice City, which I expected.
Some variation in texture work for skin would have done wonders. Their skin, clothing, and hair shaders just kind of make them look like they're made out of shiny, smooth playdoh.
Character models are more true to their cartoony PS2 ones, but I feel like their material choices really failed to do them justice. Updated geometry looks alright compared to what I was expecting at least. Overall it's exactly what I had anticipated, for better or for worse.
